The long and short about The Top Ten Signs That You Are Tuning Into A Workaholic

1) You start having meals in front of the computer. The office computer.

2) You start to think of your colleagues as family members. The type you fight with over inheritance.

3) You start hallucinating whether if your Boss’ hair is real midway through the very, very long meeting.

4) You start having crazy thoughts like “I can’t afford to take an MC because I have to finish this report.”

5) You start having even crazier thoughts like staying overnight at the office so that you can save on transport to work tomorrow.

6) You start canceling dinner dates because the instant mee at the pantry seems more appealing.

7) You start bathing at the attached bathroom at the office.

8) You start to think of the sounds made by the fax machine and copier as music.

9) You start to seriously consider investing in a foldable safari bed in the office.

10) You work through the night and only start to pack your bags at 8:30 in the morning.

I am very, very worried that I am turning into an workaholic because not only did the first nine points happened, I also worked through the night last night and is only leaving for work now.

I need a life :(

With Love,
Sibeh Sian

    OMG. SO TRUE.

    1.) happens everyday.(M-F)
    2.) oh yeah.
3.) spiky hair, so nothing to wonder abt.
4.) i have those crazy thoughts everyday (even on weekends).
5.) have considered it - but it ain't happening! ever!
6.) unfortunately, i did do that a couple of times. when it happens regualrly, i shall start dumping my work in the bin.
7.) i haven't bathed there yet, but i have washed my face b4.
8.) i'm already immune. altho i'm sensitive to the fax sound. & i think i hv fax telepathy cos it's always my faxes coming in.
    9.) Naw.
    10.) No way.

does this mean i'm a workaholic? i thought i was normal.

work is always like that. i once had an employer who wanted me to reach the workplace at 6am, but refused to let me off even at 12 am in the night. i ended up sleeping for 3 hours for two nights.

but at least that job was temporary. as for you..er..hang on?

wow, didn't know these things happen in worklife too. I'm very very shocked. Thought this kinda of crazy nights do NOT happen after leaving school.

"Hang in there, Sian" just doesn't sound right if this is your permanent job. :x I shall pray for u.

    1) All the time

    2) Not yet, but we do fight over the only attached toilet

    3) I usually found myself in a daze during meetings

    4) I was once on mc but I went back to work in the morning to finish work.

    5) I finished by work at 5am, but did more misc stuff until 6am so that I can save company the taxi fare.

    6) Dinner = Dont show up, or = show up at least 1 hr late.

    7) I was VERY tempted to take a bath at the gym near workplace so that I can go back to do more work.. but usually I will just bear until I reached home.

    8) Not music, but I know how excel docs take ard 2 sec, but photoshop printjobs take ard 8 secs.

    9) I wanted to!! Also, I am so tempted to move out to somewhere near work so that I can travel less and rest more.

    10) I worked through the fri nights before, but on regular nights I get off work between 8pm to 3am.

So dont worry, you are not the only poor thing ard. =)

Quite true, I experienced no. 1, 4 and 5..heehee. At one point, I hate weekends and holidays - because office is close...you should occasionally give yourselves a treat, seriously plan for some free time to do things you like. Enjoy being single. In this way, singles can have their own life too - away from work, that is. Lastly, if necessary, change job. Take care.

And as green ogre said: "This too, shall pass", like any other emotions...
